Hardwood
Hardwood is generally referred to as wood with a high fibre content and a narrow vessel structure.
Compared to coniferous wood, the growth is considerably slower, the wood becomes denser and heavier. However, the hardness of the wood is not directly related to its durability towards pests and fungal infestation. However, the mechanical resistance is usually advantageous compared to the softer conifers.
Hardwood is often used in high-quality furniture making or tool making.
